"For me, it’s sites like Apartment Therapy, Ffffound, Poppytalk, Oh Joy and dozens and dozens of obscure, exquisite, utterly pointless but oddly compelling Tumblrs." http://www.nytimes.com/2012/07/22/magazine/pinterest-tumblr-and-the-trouble-with-curation.html?src=recg And also "We are a world addicted to feeling over living. We are addicted to feeling, period."

keep on thinking about this

we're all bound by the things we're used to. she assumes everyone has as much money as she does, i assume everyone had an education as thorough and deep as mine. she assumes everyone spends their free time in the same exact way, watching the same things, in their bedroom. another one thinks it's perfectly common to have a family member in prison. everyone is shocked by the revelation that none of us are like each other, that while everyone we've known up to this point was exactly like us, none of these new people are anything like it. how to deal?

As an open-minded athiest woman in her mid-twenties, I appreciate this article. I feel very strongly that it is our choice what we do with our bodies and our lives. I appreciate all that birth control has done for female freedom to live however we want. However, I don't understand why women don't question the effects of the pill more. I had terrible experiences with the pill - constant infections, low libido, even depression - I got tired of the expectation that I was the one who had to suffer all of the side effects. 4 years ago, I told my partner that I wanted to use condoms. We have been using them ever since and never once had a problem. No side effects, no weird hormonal problems, and we spend much less money on birth control. Why we have all decided that hormonal birth control for women is the only way to go is beyond me. Why aren't more people crying out about the fact that no one is even trying to make a male birth control pill, arguably a much safer option that could easily have less side effects? Why is discussing the pros and cons of hormonal birth control for women ultimately wanting babies anti-feminist? It's not all so black and white, we're not all classifiable as Sarah Palins or Carrie Bradshaws. Judging each other like that is not advancing the cause of feminism at all. I think the article should have discussed scientific examples of what hormonal birth control is doing to our bodies - but I think that it makes a very interesting point and at least activates a discussion that we should ALL be having with ourselves, our friends and our partners much more openly. No one is forcing us to do anything. IMO taking hormones for years that change our bodies/lives simply because we are told that is just what's done is just as silly as acting like "cows whose only purpose is providing milk and offspring."
